The Northern Nevada Black Cultural Awareness Society (NNBCAS) promotes Black cultural awareness, education, and unity across the Truckee Meadows—uplifting communities through meaningful programs, events, and advocacy.

Our History

The Northern Nevada Black Cultural Awareness Society was organized in Reno, Nevada in July 1988 as a nonprofit dedicated to cultural education and community empowerment.

In 1989, NNBCAS was formally incorporated as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, establishing a foundation for long-term impact through education, cultural programming, and advocacy.

Since its founding, NNBCAS has grown into a respected community organization with broad support across diverse populations and institutions throughout Northern Nevada.

Alex White, III

Alex White, III

President

As President of NNBCAS, Alex leads efforts to strengthen cultural awareness, unity, and empowerment across Northern Nevada. He partners with local leaders and community organizations to expand outreach and celebrate Black heritage through impactful programs and events.

A seasoned leader and advocate, Alex brings years of experience in business strategy and community engagement. A proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., he is committed to collaboration, inclusion, and service that uplifts the community.

Originally from Chicago, Alex earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Management and Marketing from Colorado Technical University. A member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., he has called Reno home since 2013. Alongside his wife Keisha, he remains dedicated to serving the community with faith and purpose.

 

 

 

 

Rasheedah Bilal

Rasheedah Bilal

Vice President

Rasheedah is excited to serve as Vice President of NNBCAS, joining the board’s work on scholarship, youth programs, and the celebration of Black heritage in Northern Nevada.

She is also Chief of Staff to the CIO at BILL, a Captain in the California Army National Guard, and a board member of NGAUS.
